Terms and conditions
Terms for the Catharsis website: starting prices and written quotes, managed IT plan terms, trials and complimentary offers, links and liability.
About these terms
#These terms apply to your use of catharsis.net.au, the website of Catharsis Cyber Security (“Catharsis”, “we”, “us”). The legal entity that operates Catharsis is shown in the footer of every page. By using this website, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
These terms cover the website only. Services we provide to clients are governed by a separate written agreement, proposal or statement of work.
Information on this website
#The content on this website is general information about cyber security, IT and related services. It is not advice for your specific situation. Before you act on anything you read here, talk to a qualified adviser who understands your systems and obligations.
We work to keep the information accurate and current, particularly on fast-moving topics such as the ASD Essentials series and the transition from the Essential Eight. Standards, guidance and products change, so some information may be out of date by the time you read it. Where a page shows an “information current as at” date, that date applies.
Prices, quotes and offers
#Published prices are starting prices
#Every price on this website is a starting price. Prices are in Australian dollars and exclude GST unless stated otherwise. GST is added to your invoice. We supply our services to businesses and other organisations, so we show prices excluding GST.
A starting price shows the lowest price for the smallest or simplest version of a service. Your price can be higher. It depends on things such as:
- the number of users, devices, servers, sites and systems in scope;
- how complex your environment is, and its current condition;
- the licences, hardware and third-party products you need;
- the level of service and coverage you choose;
- travel outside Sydney and Greater Sydney.
The worked examples and the cost estimate on our pricing page apply the starting prices to the number of users you enter. They are estimates, not quotes.
Your written quote sets the price
#We confirm the price in a written quote or proposal after we understand your requirements. A price only becomes binding when it is set out in a written quote or agreement that we both accept. If what you need changes after you accept, for example more users, sites or work outside the agreed scope, we will tell you the cost and agree it with you before we do the extra work.
Website prices can change at any time, and a change does not affect a quote or agreement you have already accepted. A price shown on this website is an invitation to talk to us. It is not an offer that you can accept to form a contract.
Hardware, licences and other items
#Hardware is not included in any plan or service price. Where your environment needs hardware, we quote it separately. Software licences, third-party products and projects such as migrations, office moves and new sites are also quoted separately, unless your written quote says they are included.
Managed IT plans
#These summary terms apply to the managed IT plans on our managed IT pricing page. Your agreement sets out the full terms.
- Pricing: starting prices per user per month, ex GST. Your agreement sets your per-user price.
- Minimum: 5 users.
- Term: 12 months. If you need more flexible options, contact us. At the end of the term, the agreement continues month to month, and either of us can end it with 30 days’ written notice.
- Price changes: your per-user price is fixed for the 12-month term. After that, we may review it once a year with 30 days’ written notice.
- Onboarding: a one-off fee, starting from $99 per user, confirmed in your quote. It is waived on a 36-month agreement.
- Helpdesk time: each plan includes the amount of remote helpdesk time shown for it. Time beyond that amount is billed at the rate in your agreement.
- Onsite support: where included, onsite support covers Sydney and Greater Sydney. Elsewhere, we deliver support remotely, or charge travel.
- Add-ons: add-ons are charged in addition to your plan, from the starting prices shown, and confirmed in your quote.
- Service levels: response targets and coverage are those set out in your written service level agreement.
Trials and the security health check are covered by the next section. Security awareness training and phishing simulation are included in the Essentials, Business and Secure+ plans. Outside those plans, a phishing simulation is a paid service and is quoted separately.
Trials and complimentary offers
#Some services may be offered as a time-limited trial (for example product trials) or at no charge (for example the security health check). As a standalone engagement, a phishing simulation is a paid service, quoted once the number of staff and the scenario are agreed. It is not a free offer.
- Proof of value, not free use. Trials are for organisations actively evaluating a purchase. Before a trial starts we hold a short discovery call with someone who can approve the purchase, agree in writing the success criteria the trial needs to meet, and name a contact on your side who can give the time needed to set it up. Each trial ends with a results review to decide the next step.
- Requests, not entitlements. Submitting a request does not mean we will provide the offer. Every request is assessed, and whether we provide an offer, and on what terms, is at our sole discretion.
- We assess first. We consider factors such as your organisation’s size, location, environment, existing arrangements, whether there is a genuine requirement and timeframe to act on the results, and whether the offer is a suitable fit. We may decline a request without giving a reason.
- Scope confirmed in writing. If we agree to provide an offer, we confirm its scope, duration, limits and any conditions with you in writing before it starts. Only what we confirm in writing applies.
- No promise of results. A trial, simulation or health check gives a point-in-time view of what it covers. It is not a full assessment, and we don’t guarantee that it will find every issue or produce any particular outcome.
- No obligation either way. You are not obliged to buy anything after an offer, and we are not obliged to provide any paid service. Paid services are only provided under a separate written agreement.
- Limits. Offers are generally limited to one per organisation, may be limited in the number of users, devices, mailboxes or assets covered, and are intended for organisations, not individuals.
- Changes. We may change, suspend or withdraw any offer at any time. If an offer has already started, we will tell you before changing it.
- Your information. Information you share or that we collect during an offer is handled under our privacy policy and kept confidential.
Nothing in this section limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

No guarantee of complete security
#Cyber security reduces risk. It cannot remove it. No service, product or provider can guarantee that systems will never be breached, that every threat will be detected or stopped, or that data will never be lost. We deliver our services with due care and skill to reduce your risk, but we do not guarantee complete security or any particular outcome. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage caused by a cyber incident, attack or other event outside our reasonable control. The liability terms for our services are set out in your written agreement.
